Final Call: Working Groups to Move Us Forward

Following the recent Working Groups announcement, we are actively seeking additional volunteers to join the initiative.

We welcome volunteers from all disciplines, with a special emphasis on reaching out to sprinters, jumpers, throwers, and juniors.

The five working groups we are looking to setup are:

  • AGM Working Group

  • Constitution Working Group

  • Performance and Training Working Group

  • Whitehall / Clubhouse Working Group

  • Membership Survey Working Group

Your club needs you. Whether you are 10 or 80, a jumper or a marathoner, used to be on Committee or have never been involved in club management before; if you have ideas, a positive and collaborative approach, we would love to hear from you! We want to build a club that everyone is proud of. If you are interested in getting involved, please email Ben Maliphant and Paul Owen (Club Chair and Vice Chair) to express your interest and find out more!

Our next Club Committee meeting is on Thursday 16th November, so we are asking for any final volunteers to come forward before 19:00 on Thursday 16th November. Thank you.

More information on the working groups is provided below: AGM Working Group: This Working Group will look to prepare a new AGM Appendix to the Club’s Constitution to pick up the areas of feedback the Club has received from the SGM Panel Report and best practice. It will set out how we do AGMs going forward, taking a hybrid approach with opportunities to join online or in person, and with voting completed in advance online. This Working Group will look to form an AGM organising committee for 2024. This Working Group will feedback to the Club’s Management Committee; and aim to issue a draft AGM Appendix in early 2024. It will work in collaboration with the Constitution Sub-Committee. Constitution Working Group: With input from the Committee, England Athletics and Muckle LLP, this Working Group will look to review and simplify the Club’s Constitution, picking up the areas of feedback the Club has received from England Athletics, Muckle LLP, the SGM Panel Report and best practice. This Working Group will feedback to the Club’s Management Committee; and aim to issue a draft revised Constitution in early 2024. Performance and Training Working Group: Working with Paul Owen and Nick Harris, this Working Group will review the current training group structures within the club. This will identify our existing high-performance areas and look at what we can learn from these areas. It will action feedback from the membership survey to work on our areas for enhancement, experiences within the club and to identify what changes are needed to ensure that our athletes receive the opportunities they desire. This Working Group will make recommendations to the Club’s Management Committee.

Whitehall / Clubhouse Working Group: Working with the Ben Maliphant and Paul Owen and with input from England Athletics, this Working Group will work with CLF (our landlords) to work towards a new service level agreement for our Whitehall track. This will look to secure our long-term future at the track beyond 2024, putting in place a long-term management and maintenance plan for the facility.

Membership Survey Working Group: Working with Ben Maliphant and in collaboration with England Athletics, this Working Group will look to create a Members Survey. This questionnaire aims to establish our members' opinions regarding our strengths, areas for enhancement, experiences within the club and whether our athletes are receiving the opportunities they desire. This Working Group will feedback to the Club’s Management Committee; and aim to issue a membership survey in December 2023.
