Indoor Track & Field - December 3rd

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

South-West Indoor Championships – NIAC Cardiff – 3rd December 2023

Athletes really turned out in force for the first day of this important Championships but sadly there were only 5 Bristol & West athletes there to show our colours. They all competed to the best of their ability with all gaining pb’s and enjoying the warm and dry conditions of Indoor Athletics.

Young Isabelle SPENCER (U13) accompanied her sister Charlotte (U13) to compete Indoors for the fist time and was delighted to carry home a bronze medal in the Long Jump with a leap of 3.47m.  She also ran a formidable 200m in 32.38 secs for 3rd place in her race which also was her first experience of running those tight bends.  Isabelle was also entered for the High Jump but called it a day after these two exciting performances.

Younger sister Charlotte blooding herself for the first time also competed in the 200m and Long Jump and came away with pb marks of 37.59 secs and 2.54m.  Mother Debra was disappointed to see such a dismal turn out of B&W athletes and pleads that the Academy situation gets sorted out soon.

Under 15 Fayola ALIYU was equally delighted with her 30.62 secs 200m clocking on her introduction to ‘Indoor Athletics’ and is raring to sample it further.

Under 17 athletes Kezia TARZEY and Dan WEBB both known for their Hurdling talent represented the more established contingent of competitors.  Kezia ran a magnificent 200m running in the outside lane and demolishing her opponents to win her race by some 30 m in 27.56 secs.  I can’t wait to see her hurdling in the 2nd phase of these Championships in January.

Dan enjoyed himself in a variety of events as per usual.  First he ran a pb 200m in 26.77 secs then went to the Shot where he just missed out on a Medal coming 4th with a Put  of 8. 57m.  Dan rounded things off with an excellent High Jump of 1.45m.

A good day was had by all along with a plea for more B&W competitors on 7th January.
