Despite the loss of several people due to COVID issues and injury, the team came 2nd in Match 2. There were some notable performances in the field events with Joe Townley (15.27) & Jedani Wright (13.88) taking maximum performances in the triple jump & Jake Burkey (7.33) & Joe (7.20) doing the same in the Long Jump. The father and son Froudakis combination almost did the same is the discus with Alex (38.64) & Mick (34.02) taking 2nd A & 1st B string respectively. It was good to have Matt Curtis back with 1.71m in the high jump and Jake added to our points score with a PB (46.24) in the javelin.
Again in the field Cat Beatty (60.59) & Anna Louglin (46.90) took maximum points in the hammer. Jess Lewis (38.29) & Libby Harley (27.31) were first A string & 2nd B string in the javelin, while Moni Brady threw (23.44) close to her PB in the discus.
On the track it was good to see Scott Bajere back in action in the 100m (10.82) and Tristan Jamison’s squad of lads, Ed Wilson, Josh Maggs & Yusef Hussein together with Joe Carter enjoying themselves with a string of PB’s. Mark Cottam (47.79) & Tom Baines (50.05) took maximum points in the 400m, and alongside Johnny Pavani and Ollie Biddle won a competitive 4 X 400m relay. There was strong competition in the middle distances, but Josh Moody, Dave Corkey (doubling up), Ben Maliphant, Jack Millar, Andy Watt and Tim White garnered a steady stream of points.
For the women, Charlotte Orton & Natalie Isherwood piled up points in the sprints with Natalie recording PB’s in the 100m (12.31) & 200m (25.66). Charlotte also recorded the fastest time of the 4X 400m relay squad (61.4). Again in the middle distances there was strong competition but Maria Jones (2.18.71) took 2nd A string 800m after Chloe Crossman was forced to drop out with a potentially serious foot injury. Annie Carrol, Katy Roy, Rosie Hattersley, Evalina Garbin and Becky Pierce also added good numbers to the points tally.
As ever, thanks are due our officials Pete Davenport, Betti Farkas, Murray Grant, Ken Holmes, Jon Jackson and Mike and Carol Strange.
