U11 Boys & U13 lads enjoyed a successful first half of the winter fixtures.
Despite the cold dark evenings it takes a lot to stop this really committed squad of lads.
The winter fixtures kicked off in style with both the Midland road relays & National RR in Sutton Park where in typical Ali Army style we managed to put out the most teams from one club in the whole country. Hence the mini bus was very full with lots of laughter on the way back.
On to the cross country Gwent league fixtures, the first race being held at Pembrey Park in Wales which was a long journey so several of us traveled the night before & made merry in the local Premier Inn. Race day was glorious & to my joy, we fielded very large competitive teams, so starting off in style!
The second fixture at Cardiff was in October & also included The Cardiff XC challenge whereby our very own u11 Charlie Barnes ran like the wind to claim the silver medal, which was well deserved.
The most recent league fixture was thankfully at Blaise, so very local, & ensured a great turnout & really competitive racing. Afterwards, we all enjoyed some music & mince pies before the long-awaited team results the next day.
Both u11 & u13 teams are in the silver medal position so have everything to run for in February & the final fixture in March.
Whether we can replicate our magnificent result of bronze team at this year’s National XC champs remains to be seen, but we will give it our best shot next year in Weston Park Shropshire on Feb 24th 2024.
Wish us luck.
